What You Need to Know about Automated Visual Testing

Recent surveys suggest that nearly a quarter of all apps are abandoned after just one use. Ouch! Not only is this unsettling for developers, but it’s also not a sustainable way of working. Businesses can’t tolerate this rate of failure, particularly when a poor user experience impacts customer relationships and sales.

There are many reasons why an app might not succeed, but here’s the thing: first impressions count. You may have a brilliantly designed system for helping users locate exactly the information they need, but a UI with glitches simply turns people off. Studies also suggest that 90% of user abandonment of an app, website or online shopping cart can be attributed to visual bugs.

Yet we live in a reality where the pressure to shorten release cycles is overwhelming, leaving little time for testing and no room for error. The proliferation of platforms and devices means that manually verifying that the all-important GUI is correctly configured across all technologies can become an arduous, time-consuming process. Fortunately, there is an alternative.

Automated Visual Testing is a quick and reliable method for automatically validating that an app functions as designed across devices, browsers, operating systems and form factors. Want to know more? We thought so. That’s why we’ve joined forces with automated UI validation experts at Applitools to host a webinar on automated visual testing.

The free webinar “Best Practices of Automated Visual Testing” will take place on Thursday October 6th at 10 am Pacific  / 1 pm Eastern U.S. time. It’s my privilege to be joined by Adam Carmi, VP of R&D at Applitools, who also happens to be the co-founder and CTO of the firm. Together, we will walk you through what’s involved in automatic visual testing, discuss how it takes the pressure off your manual QA, and show you how you’ll end up with shorter release cycles without sacrificing quality.

The key thing when you’re approaching automated visual testing is to determine carefully what and how much to automate. Too much automation can end up being bothersome from a maintenance perspective, but too little and the quality might suffer – leading to more abandoned apps and websites. We’ll discuss the industry best practices and tools that are key to your success, demonstrating real-life examples and offering advice on how to strike the right balance.

Find out more and register for the webinar here. I hope to speak to you on Thursday. And if you need some hands-on guidance on visual testing, you can always contact us directly.
